Dear Parents and Family Members:
Welcome to The Counseling Center (TCC) website. If you are reading this then you have decided to be a part of the SUNY Buffalo family. Congratulations!
Going to college represents major life transitions for both parents and the student. Students face unique challenges on campus, so do you experience a wide range of emotions about them settling into their newly discovered or ongoing independence. Usually, parents’ concerns are associated with the students’ academic interest, ability to adjust to a new environment, managing their independence, developing their own support network on campus, taking care of their mental health needs, and adjusting to your changing relationship. While it is completely normal for both families and students to experience some anxiety during these periods of adjustments, some may experience few roadblocks while others find the process more difficult.
Therefore, our goal is to provide answers and appropriate support while we assist students’ in making their transition to SUNY Buffalo State successful. On this website we provide links to on campus and community resources for parents and family members. We hope the information will provide a platform to develop a supportive and compassionate environment between parents and students as they pursue their career goals at this college. Please do not hesitate to call TCC if you need further information regarding our services.
Warm Regards,
Counseling Center Staff
